The Australian Transport Council will announce a new National Road Safety strategy and action plan that is aimed at slashing Australias annual road toll. Meeting in Launceston, the ATC will launch the strategy with the assistance of hundreds of children of the Summerdale Primary School. The children and the Ministers who make up the council will offer a graphic photo opportunity by representing the numbers of lives that will be saved each year.
Background:
- Commonwealth, State and Territory Transport Ministers work together as the Australian Transport Council (ATC) to coordinate all the transport and road safety policy issues across Australia
- The Commonwealth is responsible for chairing the Council. The current chair is John Anderson, Deputy Prime Minister (currently Acting) and Minister for Transport and Regional Services.
- Members undertake many ongoing activities across road, rail, maritime and air; and in international transport activities.
